    PURPOSE:
    The Employment Specialist will focus on job development and employment opportunities for students enrolled across a continuum of experiences. The Employment Specialist maintains close relationship with local businesses, community agencies, and other vocationally oriented agencies to insure ongoing partnerships in providing training and employment opportunities for students. In addition, the Employment Specialist provides ongoing coaching and support to job coaches as well as supports students receiving vocational services.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Assist NSSEO licensed teacher in job development, observation of students in sites, and maintaining student data for use in referral process.
    • Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of each student following the transition plan.
    • Establishes trusting, collaborative relationships with students directed toward the goal of competitive employment
    • Collect and process work site/student time sheets and other payroll information as required
    • Maintain data, progress reports, and student work performance records
    • Report student progress to programs, and participate in team meetings
    • Provide on-site liaison between employer, job coach and student worker
    • Oversees in-school vocational training programs in coordination with career specialist
    • Other duties may include some task analysis of specific job skills if necessary, coordination of transportation for students to and from worksites, assisting in remediation of work skills with students who do not meet or maintain progress on work habits and skills.
    OTHER FUNCTIONS:
    • Assume appropriate roles as adult model, behavior manager and educator
    • Assume responsibility for continued professional growth
    • Assume other duties and special projects as assigned
    • Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and governing board goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois.
    • Assumes other duties and projects as assigned.
    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
    • To perform the physically demanding job functions, strength and/or endurance for lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling are constantly required.
    • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the physical capabilities of climbing and balancing are seldom required.
    • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the physical body movement of stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling is constantly required.
    • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the upper extremity physical capabilities reaching, handling, and/or fine motor dexterity are constantly required.
    • Exposure to temperature extremes is seldom or not present.
    • Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.) is seldom or not present.
    • Frequency of exposure to injury to self and/or others is occasionally present.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Meet the state requirements for Educator License with Stipulations endorsed for Paraprofessionals.
    • Minimum 30-60 hours college coursework required, Bachelor's degree preferred
    • Ability to read, write and communicate in English to understand directions and communicate with students and staff.
    • Experience working with students with special needs preferred.
    • Ability to participate in NSSEO approved behavior management procedures, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and to apply training in crisis situations including student restraints as needed.
    • Ability to travel within NSSEO and districts and physically move about NSSEO and district building as necessary.
    • Valid Illinois Driver’s License and ability to obtain a school bus permit in order to transport students.
